With a large building full of technology to run, St Michael’s CE Primary School began looking for alternatives to traditional power. The school’s leadership team knew solar power wouldn’t just be a good decision for the school’s budget; it would also send out a positive and inspirational message to pupils about renewable energy.

The school had a large roof to take advantage of, so they knew that fitting solar panels would be relatively easy. With the decision made, the school got in touch with some of the best renewable energy companies and invited them tender.
Once Low Carbon Energy’s expert team had met with stakeholders at the school and defined needs, objectives and budget, they designed a final solar panel installation proposal. After submitting the proposal and attending a rigorous interview, Low Carbon Energy were asked to complete the work and fit a 30 KW solar panel electricity system to the school’s roof.
Throughout the process, Low Carbon Energy worked closely with the school to minimise disruption. The team even gave the school children a lesson in renewable energy at one of their morning assemblies!
The results were not only reduced energy bills and CO2 emissions. Pupils were also able to learn about renewable energy and engage with the Low Carbon Energy team, discovering what solar power really has to offer. In addition, solar PV will now be generating a steady income stream for the school.
