With the education sector facing increasingly tight budgets, Burnley College decided to take action by making savings in any area they could.

The college were also passionate about environmental and ethical practices. So when they came across Low Carbon Energy, they knew they’d found the perfect solution to their needs for a solar panel electricity solution.

“A solar panel installation of this scale demonstrates excellent corporate social responsibility and is a good investment financially.”
Shelagh Derwent, College Governors’ Chairman

After discussing targets, emissions and finances with Burnley College, the team at Low Carbon Energy were able to develop a solar panel solution that gave the college everything they needed.

Low Carbon Energy installed a 150 KW system in July 2013, comprising of 600 solar panels. The new 150 KW system will make the college major savings on CO2 and energy – reducing their expenses and giving them piece of mind that they are doing something helpful for the environment.

Shelagh Derwent, College Governors’ Chairman, said:

“We have a genuine passion for sustainable practices which support the environment. An installation of this scale demonstrates excellent corporate social responsibility and is a good investment financially.”

Ged Ennis, Director, Low Carbon Energy adds:

“Access was a major issue for us at the college and only a carefully planned craneage operation was going to work for us to ensure a speedy installation of the solar panels. All the solar panels were loaded in a day and the whole installation was completed in two weeks.”

Low Carbon Energy have been involved with a number of Solar Panel installations in schools, colleges and other educational premises.
